Whole30, Day 26: I drank beer, and it’s okay.
I have some bad news. I ate pizza. And drank beer.
I know, I know. Why throw away 24 days of clean eating for one piece of pizza? (Okay, three pieces.)
I’ll be honest: I wish I hadn’t eaten the pizza. But I don’t regret drinking the beer, and here’s why: It was part of one of the best days with my family and nights with my friends I’ve had in a long time.
I know what you’re thinking: You could have had just as much fun without beer! Why do you need to drink to have fun?
And I totally agree with you! I’ve had a lot of fun this month without drinking beer or eating anything fried. But yesterday was all about family and friends – the entire reason I live in Kansas City – and I didn’t want to look back and think “Oh yeah! That was the time I spent the entire day trying not to eat or drink anything.”
Instead, I ate my pizza, drank my beer, and focused on how much I enjoy my family and friends.
And that’s okay!
The Whole30 program is awesome. The structure, the discipline, the elimination of toxins – all of it. But the most important thing is that it works for you.
And guess what? Today I’m back on track with almonds, black coffee, a fried egg and roasted tomatoes.
Here’s the moral of the story: Keep at it. Even when you slip up. Even when you can’t remember why you started in the first place. Because you (and your health) are worth it.
Whole30 should be about long-term lifestyle change, not white-knuckling it through events with family and friends. You are a strong, grown-ass lady (or man), and you can make your own choices!
Stay strong, do your best, and at the end of the day, just love yourself. And that will be enough.
